Dragons Den MMA was established in 1997. Union City’s premier martial arts and fitness club comes from humble beginnings. Professor Jeff Macalolooy founded the Dragons Den in his parent’s garage during his senior year at CSU Hayward (East Bay). He began his personal journey in the martial arts with Kajukenbo in 1980, training at Swiss Park in Newark and in Union City at the old St. Anne’s Church bingo hall, located in the historic Old Alvarado neighborhood.
At DDMMA, a unique approach to modern martial arts is complimented with the virtues of traditional martial arts. Respect and discipline are highly valued.
Members of the Dragons Den are part of a Martial Arts Ohana (family). The evolution of training is fostered, without sacrificing the virtues of Bushido (Way of the Warrior) and roots of true martial art traditions. Members can train to compete, for self-defense, self-discipline, or even just for fitness and fun. We teach our DD Ohana how to live a healthy lifestyle through martial arts.
Today “the Den” as it is affectionately called by our DD Ohana, offers multiple martial arts, combat sports, and fitness programs for men, women, teens, and children as young as 4 years old. The 5,300 sq ft training facility includes 2 mats, a 20’ boxing ring, 28’ MMA cage, and an array of training equipment, including punching bags and weights.
